LAS VEGAS – The Commercial Alliance Las Vegas (CALV) has added an FBI official and a panel of cyber security experts to the program for its 15th annual CALV Educational Symposium being held Sept. 21 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The symposium will feature a keynote presentation on cyber security by fraud prevention expert Frank Abagnale, who was the inspiration for the hit film “Catch Me If You Can.”

CALV is hosting the symposium for real estate professionals and others from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants can earn three hours of continuing education credits.

Abagnale is scheduled to speak at 9 a.m. about “Cyber Security: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You.” The best-selling author of several books, he went from con man to consultant. His perspective and counsel have guided not only the FBI, but more than half of all the Fortune 500 companies in America.

In addition to the presentation by Abagnale, the symposium will include a panel discussion on cyber security issues featuring experts Cynthia Long, of Old Republic Title Company, Shawn Santerre, of XIT Solutions, and Dennis D. Stephens, of Meadows Bank.

The speaker for the luncheon portion of the event is Sarah Alwine, supervisory special agent for the FBI Las Vegas Cyber detail.

The symposium will conclude with an afternoon class on “Cyber Security for Real Estate” taught by Deanne Rymarowicz, former legal counsel for Las Vegas REALTORS® (LVR) and now legal counsel for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

CALV President Angelina Scarcelli, a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Certified Property Manager (CPM®), said CALV is “looking forward to bringing commercial real estate professionals and others together for what we hope will be our biggest CALV symposium yet. Cyber security is a very important and timely topic and Frank Abagnale is a leading expert and a very entertaining speaker on the subject.”

Participants can register in advance or at the event. All-day admission is $99 for members of CALV or affiliated local organizations including the local chapters of the Appraisal Institute (AI); BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association), CCIM; CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women); IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management); NAIOP Southern Nevada; Nevada State Apartment Association (NVSAA); and SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors®).
