CBRE announced today that Warwick Olney has joined its Denver office as a First Vice President with CBRE Capital Markets’ Debt and Structured Finance practice. Mr. Olney will spearhead the joint venture equity platform for CBRE in Colorado, serving client needs throughout the Western United States.

“We strive to make real estate investing as seamless as possible for our clients, so it’s great to now have a joint venture equity specialist based in Denver, serving Colorado and the West. Warwick’s background in banking and private equity gives him unique insight into the financing process, which will help our clients make the most-informed decisions regarding their commercial property investments,” said Pete Schippits, Senior Managing Director and Market Leader for CBRE’s Colorado region.

Joint venture equity is a specialty within CBRE Capital Markets’ Debt and Structured Finance practice that provides equity capital solutions to operating partners. In a joint-venture partnership, CBRE connects a real estate investor, owner or developer with an equity source, typically in the form of a limited partner. It is often used when an owner/operator does not have the desire or capacity to invest its own equity fully in every project.

“Joint venture equity is integral to capitalizing a real estate deal. I look forward to leveraging my network alongside CBRE’s platform to help connect clients with equity partners and navigate the process, especially in places like Denver where the commercial real estate market continues to expand and attract more institutional capital,” said Mr. Olney.

Prior to rejoining CBRE, Mr. Olney was a senior investment professional with Summit Investment Management, a Denver-based private equity firm and partner of a large New York-based hedge fund. He was responsible for the acquisition of the firm’s complex investments targeting distressed commercial real estate across all product types in various markets across the United States.

Before that Mr. Olney spent five years in New York City helping build the U.S. real estate platform for the Bank of Ireland. In this position, he coordinated the origination, underwriting and asset management of senior secured commercial real estate loans in primary cities, which included construction and permanent financing.

He started his career as an intern with CBRE in the Hartford, Connecticut office and served in various roles within CBRE/New England including research, downtown office leasing and investment sales. Mr. Olney is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
