Join hundreds of local children and adults battling Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis to walk for cures in the Mountains Edgeon Saturday, April 29 at Exploration Park. Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis is the Foundation’s largest fundraising event dedicated to raising critical research funds and awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two painful, debilitating digestive diseases that affect 1 in 200 Americans, including 80,000 children nationwide.

“Take Steps is often the first time a newly diagnosed patient comes face to face with other patients who truly understand their disease,” said Breanna Baer, national manager, Take Steps Campaign. “Our walk is a celebration of all that we have accomplished in battling these diseases. Patients and families feel empowered for having made a tangible difference in their own lives, inspired for their own futures, and connected to others on a similar journey. Our patients are never alone in their fight.”

Take Steps funds critical research efforts for those suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Take Steps Las Vegas has set a goal to raise nearly $50,000 in 2017. In total, the Foundation has invested $267 million in research for cures.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are medically incurable diseases that affect the digestive system and affect 1.6 million Americans. Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are often referred to as ‘silent diseases’ because many who suffer are embarrassed to talk about their condition. In addition to fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and fatigue, symptoms of IBD also can include an urgent need to use the bathroom, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, rectal bleeding, and constipation. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery.

In addition to the walk through Exploration Park at the Mountain’s Edge Master Planned Community, festivities will include live music, refreshments, kid’s entertainment, raffle prizes, booths, information, park activities, and more. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome.

A $50 donation per person is encouraged to celebrate the Foundation’s 50th anniversary in providing support to patients. Every participant who raises $100 or more will receive a 2017 commemorative T-shirt, a Take Steps keepsake to carry on walk day, and a wristband to receive refreshments.
