Bob Campbell, 85, Local Homebuilder, DiesHugh Robert “Bob” Campbell, a giant in the local construction industry and past chairman of the Nevada State Contractors Board, passed away at home January 30 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 85. Campbell was among the first subdivision home builders in metropolitan Las Vegas. He established Sun Home Builders in 1959 to build more than 70 homes in the third phase of Las Verdes Heights near Sahara Avenue and Arville Street. He went on to build thousands of subdivision homes, custom homes, apartments and federally-subsidized housing projects until the 1980s when he diversified into other businesses. Then-Gov. Richard Bryan appointed Campbell to the Nevada State Contractors Board in 1984, and reappointed him for a second term. Then-Gov. Bob Miller reappointed him for a third term as chairman from 1991 to 1993. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m., Feb. 10 at the Shadow Hills Church, 7811 Vegas Drive.
