Tom Harmon, 73, Longtime Las Vegas Builder, Dies

TomHarmonLas Vegas utility contractor Thomas C. Harmon died on January 27. He was 73. A Beaumont, Tex. native, Harmon moved to Las Vegas in 1968 and began working for Acme Electric shortly thereafter. The 52-year-old industrial electrical and dry utility contractor, acquired by North Las Vegas-based New-Com Inc. in 2001, is responsible for several underground projects throughout Southern Nevada. Harmon later left Acme to launch Desert Construction Co., specializing in highway lighting and traffic signals. He eventually shutdown the company amid union woes, and reopened as an open-shop business called All Pro Construction in 2008. Harmon was an active industry leader serving as president of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association from 1989 to 1990, as well as the boards of the Nevada Contractors Association and Laborers, Local 872, Pension, Health and Welfare Fund. Gov. Richard Bryan appointed to Harmon to the Nevada State Contractors Board from 1983 to 1989; he served as board chairman for three years.
